Salary/Wages
Wage
- Employees in non-managerial positions are paid a specified hourly rate. After probationary period, the hourly state starts at either ¥1,500 or ¥1,550 per hour.
- After reaching the top hourly rate, extra check payments will be made twice a year, depending on the length of continuous employment.
- Employees in managerial positions are paid by annual salary, which is divided by 12 months.

Automatic Pay Rise
- Costco has a unique automatic pay rise system.
- Employees receive a pay rise (range between ¥20 and ¥64 increase per hour) automatically roughly about every 6 months (1,000 worked hours).
- Top hourly rate (¥1,850 or ¥2,000) can be reached 4.5 years after joining Costco.
- Extra check amount increases each year as it increases in line with the length of continuous employment.

Overtime Pay
- In principle, there will be no overtime work. During the holiday season (Golden Week, Obon, and Christmas/New Year), up to 30 to 60 minutes overtime per day might occur.
- Overtime pay of 1.35 times the regular hourly rate is paid for all hours worked in excess of 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week.
- Fixed overtime pay is included in salaried employees' salary.
Shift
- In principle, full-time employees are scheduled to work 40 hours per week.
- Five-day workweek.
- Full-time employees are scheduled for 8.5 hours a day, including 1-hour break (30-minute paid and 30-minute unpaid breaks). Actual working hours is 7.5 hours per day.
- Shift schedule depends on the department you are placed in.
