Annual Company Holiday (120 days), Five-Day Workweek, Annual Paid Vacation, Paid Sick Leave, Special Leave, Lay Judge Leave

Holiday Work

  • Holiday work allowance of 1.35 times the regular hourly rate is paid.
  • Full-time employees are also given a substitute day off while part-time employees are paid holiday pay (1-day pay) if requirements are met.

  • Annual paid vacation can be taken as a half day or full day leave.
  • Annual paid vacation usage rate is 99%.
  • Unused annual paid vacation can be carried forward to the next year.

  • Paid sick leave can be taken as a half day or full day leave.
  • Paid sick leave can be used to deal with illness, injury or health condition of the employee or a family member, including domestic partners.
  • You will be paid your total unused paid sick days account balance every year.

※Paid sick leave will be granted when you are employed for one year.

Maternity Leave

  • Maternity leave is granted in two parts: the first is the prenatal period which is the 6 weeks before the expected date of birth (14 weeks for multiple births) and the second is the postnatal period which is 8 weeks after childbirth.
  • Costco has been awarded a 3-star Eruboshi certification in recognition of its promotion of women’s advancement within the company.

Child Care Leave

Child Care Leave

  • Employees are able to take the child care leave until the child turns 1 year old.
  • Costco promotes male employees to take the child care leave.
  • Many male employees have taken the child care leave.
  • Costco is certified for the company that supports child-raising.

Nursing Care Leave

Nursing Care Leave

  • Employees may take the nursing care leave (up to 93 days) for a certain period of time to care for family members who require nursing care.

※Available to employees who have been employed consecutively for 12 months or more.

Other Leaves of Absence

Other Leaves of Absence

  • Employees may take a leave of absence for a certain period of time for illness or injury that have occurred other than on the job.
