Student Program
LEOStocker (Merchandising Department, Zama Warehouse) Joined Costco in 2017
Leo joined the Front End Department in Zama Warehouse as a student arbeit while studying at university. When he progressed to a master’s degree, he resigned from Costco to focus on his research and work abroad. Upon returning to Japan, Leo returned to Zama Warehouse and gained experiences working in the Deli Department and Tire Center. He enrolled in Costco’s Student Program and joined the Merchandising Department as a full-time employee after graduating with a master’s degree.
- What was the most memorable moments during your Student Program?
When I first joined the Merchandising Department as a stocker, I worked in foods and seasonal products areas. It left an impression on me that varying skills/techniques are required to present the merchandise depending on the products, even within the same department.
- What do you think is the benefit of Student Program?
The biggest benefit of the Student Program is that you will be able to start your Costco career with an overall understanding of the Costco’s business, probably more or so than joining Costco as a student arbeit or a part-time employee. You gain experience and knowledge about numerous jobs available in Costco during an internship program and it helps you find a job that matches your needs.
- Are you glad that you enrolled on the Student Program?
Yes. I was able to think through my career vision and the kind of work I wanted to do at Costco, while working and receiving a full support from the company.
- Tell me areas where you have made growth and progress during the Student Program.
I think my biggest growth is in ability to handle various work with a broad knowledge of jobs in the warehouse and a sound understanding of Costco’s code of ethics.
- What are your future goals?
I want to advance my career and become Warehouse Manager one day. My immediate goal is to become Supervisor and embrace challenges beyond my current abilities.
